Stage and Soundtrack

Over the years, much of the music we remember has come from stage shows and the movies, loosely described as “Broadway and Hollywood.” There’s a reason — the top musical talents worked in those venues. Stage and Soundtrack presents a tuneful variety of “performance” music, along with carefully researched historical and anecdotal commentary by Peter Weiglin. Not all of the efforts were smash hits, but many musical gems survived the “flopperettas.”

London Rhythm

London Rhythm Alan and Judy Seeger lived in New York City for more than 40 years where they produced and/or directed over 400 films and television programs. Their work has been honored with a host of awards from the Venice Film Festival to a U.S. Congressional Commendation. In 1980 Alan was awarded a New York Emmy for writing and directing and Judy took home an Emmy for producing. Always fans of the Big Bands, they began collecting vintage recordings of London dance bands and West-End stars in the 1960s when they were in England making television featurettes for the motion pictures CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, the James Bond film ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE, and the Beatles YELLOW SUBMARINE. Their collection of classic British recordings was the starting point of their WMKV program, LONDON RHYTHM. (LONDON RHYTHM features Pre-Beatles pop music from the English Music Hall to the telly with emphasis on the great London Dance bands of the ‘30s and ‘40s.) London Rhythm is heard on Fridays at 9 p.m. (EST/DST).
